Coronado High School
A four year multi-phased restoration, remodeling and new
construction project consisting of 100,200 s.f. of building area.
Phases include new science labs, specialized arts facilities,
60 classrooms, new campus infrastructure, new administration offices,
special education facilities, new library/studen union, and 600 seat auditorium. The campus features a large central quadrangle. The urban one acre site for a school of 1,000 students had to be kept in operation throughout the construction phases adding additional organizational logistics. The style was set to coordinate with the adjacent elementary school as requested by the school district, but also took basic facade organizational elements from the original 1920's high school. Every effort was made to make the building as humanistic and user firendly as possible. High school can be a challenging time in a young adult's life, but I attempted to provide many different spaces and environments so that students could each find a comfortable place to call their own.

Crawford High School Library, San Diego, CA
Remodeling and addition to the existing library.
The reading room addition features numerous passive energy components,
extensive day lighting, solar shading, clerestory windows for natural
gravity ventilation, an internal shade structure to diffuse the natural
lighting and eliminate glare, indirect energy efficient lighting, and
enhanced acoustical dampening. The interior uses a non tradiitonal mixing of seating and stacks, as well 'window seats', to make reading areas more inviting.
